Ps Perspective…. ” Self Reflection ” Season 2 Episode 10

This week our topic of discussion came bay way of email from Shante freeman. ” Self Reflection ” , When critiqued are we able to accept the criticism or do we automatically go to rebutals ? I thought this was a dope topic I think there are many factors but lets It break it down.

Questions:
1. When someone critiques how can we tell if it’s constructive criticism vs derogatory
2. When people are self reflecting can they be honest and accountable during the process
3. Share a moment in which criticism hurt
4. Does it matter who is doin the critiquing

Peace T.P. Another Great Topic. I appreciate the dialogue and examples that you used and would have to agree that overall, we are fragile and don’t take to criticism well but it can be because of open wounds that aren’t healed. I think the rebuttals happen as defense mechanisms to justify behaviors that we know we have to work on and at some point, we are all guilty of it.
My first answer, I think we perceive constructive criticism vs derogatory depending on who it is coming from. Second, I think people can be honest and accountable during the process of Self Reflecting and Third, a moment in which criticism hurt is when I was told I “go too hard”, with regards to being aggressive. While I think there’s such a negative conotone with being aggressive, I do think there’s times when it’s necessary. At the time, I was hurt not so much because of the message but because of who the messenger was. Lastly, I think it does matter who is doing the critiquing , primarily because of who the person is and the role that they play in our lives.
